This was my first planet score 3.33 earths would be needed if everyone on our planet had the same lifestyle I do. This is entirely too much, we should all need just one planet to live on. What this score is basically telling me is that i need to change up some of my living habits in order to keep our planet in good condition. We tend to abuse the fact that we have so many natural resources that we don't realize how much we're hurting our planet. Just because we have a lot of something doesn't mean we can go ahead and use all of it. We need to learn to be smart users.
= 2.03 Earths
The score I got the second time I took the ecological footprint test was 2 earths. It decreased from 3 earths and that was because the answers I had to choose were more pro-earth. Pro-earth meaning that I was making decisions that would not only help me save money, but save my planet as well. Instead of taking the train/bus/car to work or school I'd walk. This was decrease the amount of pollution in the air because there would be less automobiles and buses being used. Also in our homes we have plenty of ways of saving energy. Simple methods like using fluorescent light bulbs, solar panels & and just unplugging electronics when they're not in use. In order to score 1 earth I'd have to do all these things and more. I could start off by just living in a smaller home and recycling any chance I get.
How feasible is it to live a one planet existence now? Well nowadays that's pretty easy because we have all the energy saving methods, we have enough knowledge as human beings in what it is to save. We don't necessarily need to walk everywhere we go but we can ride our bikes to work and school instead of hopping on the train or bus. The government and society can help the cause too though. If we're capable of creating ads to persuade the people to buy a certain item, we can also persuade one another to live a one earth existence. We can promote easy and quick ways to save money, energy and keep our planet going.
Although we have the power to do so, in the times we're living in now that's not whats on the mind of our fellow people. We focus too much on getting and not giving anything in return. We all want the newest gadgets but we're not paying close attention to what needs to be done in order to get these "gadgets" in our hands. We're using all of our natural resources and we're not being careful that the more we use the less we'll have later on in our future. The cellular devices that we're on constantly nowadays, where did they come from? They didn't just appear at our doorstep like a magic trick. They weren't sent into our planet by aliens from outer space, so where did they come from? Natural resources. The metal, wood, and other things that we use every single day all comes from our planet. The sad part of all of this, is that we have the power to save our planet, but yet we manage to be so selfish and hurt it.
